On June 30, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto emphasized the importance of unity and prosperity in Kenya's politics, speaking in Mumias West Constituency in Kakamega.
He stated that the development of the country depends on the kind of politics pursued by leaders, and that Jubilee's foundation is based on unity and the prosperity of the country.
Regretting that some leaders were engaging in political hate, Ruto urged them to focus on serving those who voted for them.
He also emphasized the need for Jubilee leaders to stick to the party's manifesto, which aims to eliminate tribalism and empower Kenyans.
Local leaders, including Mumias West MP Johnson Naicca and Sirisia MP John Waluke, echoed Ruto's sentiments, calling for a new approach to Western Kenya's politics.
Naicca noted that the region had been left behind in terms of development due to its association with the Opposition, and called for a shift in focus towards development and unity.
Waluke urged his colleagues to remain committed to transforming the country, and to fulfill their pledges to the people lest they face their wrath in the 2022 polls.
