Joseph Gitumbe's life took a dramatic turn when he was involved in a severe accident while serving in the Kenya Defence Forces. The incident left him with severe facial and nasal injuries, and he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

As he struggled to come to terms with his new reality, Gitumbe faced further challenges, including sleep deprivation, negative remarks from his colleagues, and the rejection of his wife, who eventually left him after five years of marriage.

Things took a darker turn in 2016 when Gitumbe was dismissed from the army on medical grounds. He received a severance package of less than Sh8,000, which barely covered his medical bills. The dismissal letter stated that he was unfit for further service, making it difficult for him to find employment elsewhere.

At his lowest point, Gitumbe contemplated suicide and even considered harming those who had caused him pain, including his bosses and his wife. However, he was directed to Pastor Nancy Maina of the Redeemed Gospel Church, Huruma, who prayed for him and shared the message of God's love and hope.

Under Pastor Maina's guidance, Gitumbe found a new purpose and is now an evangelist with the Redeemed Gospel Church, Huruma. He has forgiven his wife and those who had caused him suffering, and he is currently recovering from PTSD and depression.

Gitumbe's story serves as a powerful reminder that depression is real and that it's essential to show love and compassion to those who are struggling. He urges people to take what those suffering from depression say seriously and not to ignore them.
