Tragedy struck on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway on Saturday evening, claiming the lives of four members of a family.
The accident occurred when the vehicle they were traveling in rammed into an oncoming truck, resulting in the instant deaths of the four.
According to Makindu Traffic Commandant James Rasungu, the car was overtaking another vehicle when the accident occurred, and none of the occupants survived.
The deceased included a man, his girlfriend, their four-month-old daughter, and his sister-in-law.
Two occupants of the truck escaped with no injuries, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Makindu Hospital mortuary.
The accident happened at the same spot where a police vehicle transporting remandees from Mtito Andei Police Station to Makindu Law Courts overturned a day earlier, killing one person on the spot.
Police swiftly directed traffic, causing a heavy snarl-up along the busy highway.
Just two days prior, at least eight people were killed in an accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a motorbike at Lwandeti along the Eldoret-Malaba road in Kakamega county.
