Published on June 30, 2019, a tragic accident occurred in Lwandeti along the Webuye-Eldoret Highway, claiming seven lives.

A truck, a passenger service vehicle, and a motorcyclist were involved in the accident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning.

According to Kakamega County Commander Bernard Muli, the motorcyclist attempted to overtake a Webuye-bound truck, oblivious of an oncoming passenger vehicle.

As a result, the motorcyclist and his two passengers, as well as four occupants of the passenger service vehicle, died instantly.

However, six other passengers in the 11-seater matatu sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Webuye Hospital in Bungoma County.

Commander Muli urged motorists, especially motorcyclists, to exercise caution when using the busy highway to prevent similar accidents.

Just days prior, on June 1, seven people died in an accident in Webuye, with allegations that the driver of the matatu was under the influence of alcohol.

Elsewhere, 10 people, including students, narrowly escaped death after accidentally touching a live electricity wire while erecting a tent at Sigalagala National Polytechnic.
