On June 28, 2019, a Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over drug trafficking allegations.
According to a statement by the DCI on June 29, 2019, Redson Otieno Onyango, the Ngei Ward MCA, was arrested in connection with a consignment of narcotics impounded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on April 19th, 2019.
The consignment allegedly contained a drug substance believed to be heroine, and the MCA will be paraded in court on Monday to face drug trafficking charges.
Notably, this is not the first time a politician has been arrested for drug trafficking in Kenya. Earlier this month, politician Jaffer Isaak was arrested in Marsabit County while ferrying 445 kilograms of Bhang, valued at approximately Sh13 million.
