On June 29, 2019, a devastating car accident occurred at Maragua in Murang'a county, claiming the lives of two people.
The victims were among a group of five people traveling in a private car from Nairobi to Murang'a, where they were headed to Nginda Girls for a weekend challenge.
According to reports, the driver attempted to overtake on a hill but collided head-on with a public service vehicle heading towards Kenol.
Speaking on the incident, Murang'a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua warned motorists to exercise caution in the area, citing it as a 'dangerous black spot'.
Maragua Constituency MP Mary Waithira also weighed in, calling for the expansion of the road and the establishment of a climbing lane to prevent future accidents.
Tragically, this is not the first time the road has witnessed a fatal accident. In 2009, a family of eight perished after their car collided with a mini-bus, and earlier in the year, an assistant chief and a child died after a matatu hit a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) bus from behind.
