Sebastian Vettel's Austrian Grand Prix qualifying was marred by an air pressure problem, forcing him to miss the Q3 top-10 shootout.
However, his teammate Charles Leclerc made the most of the opportunity, storming to pole position with a record lap in the final seconds.
Leclerc's achievement was a welcome consolation for Vettel, who expressed his disappointment at missing out on the qualifying session.
"It's not happy for me from my side of the garage, but it is great for the team to see Charles come through and get pole," Vettel said.
Leclerc's pole position was his second of the season, following his maiden pole in Bahrain in March.
He was presented with his 'Pirelli pole position award' by Lukas Lauda, son of the late three-time world champion Niki Lauda.
Leclerc's Ferrari teammate Mattia Binotto was thrilled with the team's performance, saying: "It's a mixed feeling for us today. A shame for Seb, of course, as he would have done very well, but Charles has done very well!"
Leclerc's achievement marked a significant milestone for Ferrari, with the team securing two poles in the last three races.
