June 29, 2019 - The United States has urged Sudan's security forces and military to refrain from using violence as the country braces for a mass protest on June 30.

The protest is a deadline set by the African Union (AU) for Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) to transfer authority to civilian rule.

Sudan has been run by the military since the ousting of longtime ruler Omar al-Bashir on April 11, marking an anniversary of his 1989 military coup.
