Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has found himself at odds with the Interior Ministry, with claims emerging that his security detail has been withdrawn.
According to Sang, police officers attached to his office and home have been recalled, a move he believes is aimed at curtailing his efforts in helping the public.
”It is absurd for the Ministry of Interior to withdraw my security on account of my actions to recover and protect public property,” Sang said.
The move comes as Sang is currently battling a court case where he is accused of leading the invasion of Kibwari Tea estate in Nandi hills.
He was arrested on June 9 this year and charged over destruction of the estate, with the hearing of the case set for September 19, 2019.
The situation is further complicated by allegations that Kibwari Tea Company took over the land where the estate was located and demolished the facility, only to plant tea.
It is alleged that the land invasion is linked to a dispute involving County Executives, MCAs, and Kaburet squatters over the invasion of land in Kapsimotwo.
