Published on June 29, 2019, Lionel Messi's struggles in the Copa America continued as Argentina secured a quarter-final win over Venezuela.

Despite his team's success, Messi's performance was far from impressive, with the five-time world player of the year looking rusty, slow, and unable to conjure up his usual magic.

Argentina's all-time top scorer has only scored once in the tournament, from the penalty spot, and has not provided any assists, leaving fans and critics alike wondering when he will rediscover his form.

Coach Lionel Scaloni refused to comment on Messi's poor display, instead focusing on the positive impact the player has on the team.

“Messi's contribution on the pitch is essential, if you could see what he gives us in the dressing room you'd think differently. I assure you it's great to have him here,” Scaloni said.

Argentina will face tournament hosts and arch-rivals Brazil in the semi-finals, and will need Messi to regain his form if they are to progress further in the competition.
