On June 9, 2021, David Murathe, the Vice Chair of the Jubilee Party, made headlines with an interview on NTV, where he revealed his plans to exit the party.
According to Murathe, his primary objective at the Jubilee Party was to remove members aligned with Deputy President William Ruto. He claimed to have successfully achieved this goal, stating that those who were once part of the Jubilee Party had found a new home in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
While announcing his exit plans, Murathe confirmed that he would not be interested in any position within the party moving forward. However, he revealed that he had one final task before officially leaving the party.
Murathe's focus, he stated, would be on destabilizing DP Ruto's grip on the Mt Kenya region.
