Published on June 29, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has vowed to crack down on the betting industry in Kenya.
Speaking in Kisii County, Matiang'i stated that the licences of most betting firms will not be renewed once the ongoing vetting is completed.
The vetting process, he explained, is aimed at ensuring that the firms comply with tax laws, as many have been found to be non-compliant.
"They must all comply with the law," Matiang'i emphasized, adding that the government will not tolerate any further non-compliance.
The minister also expressed concern over the negative impact of betting on the youth, stating that many have become idle and spend most of their time betting.
