On June 29, 2019, Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege was in Kisumu county as part of the Team Embrace movement, promoting peace and unity in the wake of the 2017 Presidential election.

During a visit to baby Samantha Pendo's home in Nyalenda slums, Kisumu county, Chege broke down in tears after Pendo's mother, Lenser Achieng, narrated the events surrounding the baby's death.

Baby Pendo died on August 15, 2017, at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu after being in a coma for five days. The baby was badly injured on the head by police officers who raided her parents' home during a violent operation to diffuse demonstrations.

It was not the first time Chege had cried in public, having previously broken down in tears after youths booed her in her county.
