On June 29, 2019, Lynda Nyangweso posted a powerful message on social media, addressing her cyber bullies with a mix of humor and resilience.
She had recently returned from a holiday with her husband Lance, celebrating their anniversary and their daughter's birthday. However, instead of basking in the joy of the moment, she found herself facing criticism and judgment from anonymous online critics.
These critics, who hide behind the veil of anonymity, had the audacity to judge Nyangweso's every move, from her attire to her actions. They offered no encouragement, only tearing her down with their hurtful comments.
But Nyangweso refused to engage with her detractors. Instead, she chose to rise above the noise, showcasing her mental fortitude and maturity. Her response was a masterclass in positivity and class.
She posted a picture of herself in a kitenge, saying, 'so apparently fat girls shouldn’t swim in actual swimming costumes but should instead wear tents, mumus, the largest sengenge ni wire tshirts, but if they’re feeling really sexy, a whale costume to better suit their bodies lol. so to even out my last few posts, and now that leave kweli inaisha, here’s a picture of me in kitenge that doesn’t show anything. thanks for reminding me my place, I am ashamed again, and I understand now how the Nairobi cold got your panties all bunched up.'
She accompanied her post with hashtags #sofatsobrave, #wifematerial, #dontSendSupportmessages, and #sendFood.
