On June 28, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred on the Eldoret-Webuye highway, claiming the lives of seven people.

A matatu, traveling from Eldoret to Bungoma, collided with a trailer headed towards Eldoret from Kampala, Uganda, resulting in the tragic loss of life.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a motorbike lost control and rammed into the on-coming matatu, causing a chain reaction that led to the collision with the truck.

The seven passengers who perished in the accident died instantly, while seven others were left with serious injuries.

The injured were rushed to a Kakamega County Hospital for treatment.
