On June 28, 2019, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino spoke outside the Milimani law courts in support of his Starehe counterpart Charles Njagua, alias Jaguar, who was being held at Kileleshwa police station.
Babu Owino expressed his dissatisfaction with the prosecution's handling of the case, stating that they did not provide compelling reasons to detain Jaguar.
He urged the DCI to source for evidence before arresting people, saying that the current approach was 'shoddy.'
'The DCI is doing a shoddy job and shame on them. You cannot arrest somebody and then do investigations later,' Babu Owino said.
Babu Owino further argued that government officials have made similar remarks regarding the legality of work permits issued to immigrants and have not ended up in cells.
He emphasized that the DCI must not be seen to be curtailing the rights of Kenyans to speak out on issues that affect them, citing the quote 'An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind.'
On June 28, 2019, the court granted the prosecution three working days to finalise their investigations.
