On May 19, 2021, Nelson Havi, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, announced his bid for the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2022. A week later, he revealed his chosen political party.

Nelson Havi has officially joined the Amani National Congress (ANC) party, led by Musalia Mudavadi. The party welcomed him at its headquarters in Lavington, where he was received by Executive Director Margaret Ndanyi.

As a member of the ANC, Havi has pledged his support for Musalia Mudavadi's presidential bid in 2022. In his initial declaration, Havi stated that he was approached by constituents to run for the Westlands seat.

“I have accepted the request of the people of Westlands Constituency to serve them and the nation in that capacity of an MP effective August 2022 or earlier in the event Parliament is dissolved,” Havi said.

As a lawyer and President of the Law Society of Kenya, Havi demonstrated his understanding of the duties of a Member of Parliament, as outlined in the constitution. He expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill these duties.
