Published on May 13, 2021, two Mount Kenya University students, Christopher Arunga and Sylvia Wanjiku, were among the 750 young entrepreneurs awarded grants and seed capital under the MbeleNaBiz Competition.
The competition, organized by the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, seeks to help youth-run enterprises expand their solutions.
Christopher Arunga, a Bachelor of Education (Arts) student, won Ksh 3.6 million to set up an animal feeds processing plant in Kakamega County, while Sylvia Wanjiku, a procurement student, won Ksh 900,000 for a chocolate making business in Muranga County.
The two students received the call to participate in the competition from Mount Kenya University's office of the Director, Career and Alumni Services in March 2020.
Out of 11,000 entries, the 750 winners were chosen, and Mount Kenya University supports entrepreneurial alumni through its Graduate Enterprise Academy (GEA) and Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion (STEP) Program.
