On May 1, 2021, a disturbing scene unfolded in Kiunyu village, Gatanga, as the bodies of two unidentified men were found floating in the Thika River.
Local residents, who had gathered to wait for police officers to arrive, expressed their shock and frustration at the discovery.
‘We have been here for over two hours and no police officers have come to collect the bodies, we have no idea who these people are,’ Mercy from Kihumbuini village told Citizen Digital.
Residents urged security forces to begin investigations into the deceased’s identities, as well as how and why they were killed.
One of the bodies discovered lacked eyes and had both hands severed at the wrists, adding to the sense of horror and mystery surrounding the incident.
The discovery comes just days after a body with missing upper limbs was found in the Mathioya River and taken to the Muranga County morgue.
Police have been directed to form a team to investigate the murders, with the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, stating that the team will report its findings in a month.
