On July 30, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i visited City Hall accompanied by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) boss Mohammed Badi.

Following the visit, Matiang'i announced plans to construct a police station inside City Hall, which houses the offices of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and the County Assembly.

The move aims to curb future wrangles and demonstrations, which have been a recurring issue at City Hall.

According to a report by The Standard, published on August 3, 2020, Matiang'i stated, 'We will have a police post fully run by officers here to ensure the county is safe from people threatening security.'

The trio also assessed the damage caused by the chaos before visiting the office of Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

Earlier, the CS had the police force withdraw licenses of officers involved in clobbering Mlango Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu.

On July 28, Mutheu was beaten up by police officers and injured in the chaos that ensued at City Hall.

A section of MCAs had stormed the premises and wanted to serve Speaker Beatrice Elachi with an impeachment notice signed by 59 members.

The CS also ordered the newly sworn-in clerk Edward Gichana to ensure that peace is maintained at the assembly.

On July 27, Elachi accused the Nairobi governor of being behind the push to have her removed.
