On July 18, 2020, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe visited Embu County to inspect the county's preparedness in combating COVID-19.

During his visit, Kagwe emphasized the need for individual responsibility in the fight against COVID-19, stating that the numbers were alarmingly high.

He specifically appealed to partakers of Muguka, a cash crop grown in the county, to strictly adhere to COVID-19 guidelines and protect their families from the virus.

According to Kagwe, an estimated 50% of the youth in the county use Muguka, and while doing so, they abandon all rules on social distancing.

He introduced a new slogan, 'you save me, I save you,' to stress the importance of protecting one another from the virus.

The government has been supporting county governments in their fight against COVID-19, and Embu County has received Ksh 48.5 million for the payment of allowances for frontline healthcare workers.

Additionally, 92 healthcare workers have been recruited in the county, and the government has installed radiology machines, ICU, renal, and theatre equipment in both level 4 and 5 hospitals in the county.

Embu County has also received a further disbursement of a consignment of personal protective equipment.

Kagwe expressed his satisfaction with the level of preparedness in the county, praising the Embu County Government and residents for adhering to the laid-down guidelines on COVID-19.
