On July 11, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta reviewed COVID-19 guidelines, allowing places of worship to reopen under stringent rules.
However, Parklands Baptist Church in Nairobi has chosen not to reopen, opting instead to continue with virtual services.
According to a statement by the church's top pastor, Ambrose Njoroge, the new guidelines were too difficult to adhere to, and the church has decided to prioritize the safety of its members.
Specifically, the church cited the restrictions on worshipers below the age of 13 and those above 58 years of age, which they felt would negatively impact the 'wholesome family fellowship' they value.
Mr. Njoroge urged church members to take care and avoid contracting the coronavirus, while also expressing concern about the potential impact on family gatherings.
