On June 26, 2020, a Nairobi court sentenced Sirisia MP, John Waluke, to seven years in prison or a fine of over Sh700 million for his role in the Sh313 million maize scandal.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, a prominent advocate, has been linked to the scandal after it emerged that he received Sh40 million for representing his clients in two applications filed before the appellate court.

According to Ahmednasir, he instructed his clients and led the lawyer on record in the two applications, which he successfully argued before the Court of Appeal. He claimed that he was fairly earning fees as a lawyer and had 'ZERO APOLOGY' for doing so.

LSK President Nelson Havi also found himself on the wrong side of Kenyans after he took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with the ruling, calling it 'criminal.'

Havi argued that Waluke and his co-accused, Grace Wakhungu, had contracted with the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and that the board had breached the contract. He claimed that the arbitrator had ordered payment, which was enforced by the High Court, and that NCPB had lost before the High Court and Court of Appeal.

However, Havi's tweet attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans, with some faulting him for taking sides with the corrupt.
