June 23, 2020 - Mwangi Kiunjuri, a former Cabinet Secretary, has launched a new political party, The Service Party (TSP), six months after losing his post.
The party's slogan is 'Huduma-Twajiamini' (service-believe), and its symbol is a red heart.
Speaking to reporters, Kiunjuri said the party will focus on service delivery ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
His close association with Deputy President William Ruto was cited as a reason for his sacking by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January.
Despite this, Kiunjuri denied any rift with Ruto, saying 'I never betray my friends.'
The party plans to open offices countrywide ahead of an intended launch later this year, paving the way for grassroots elections.
