On June 19, 2020, hundreds of mourners, including fellow musicians and fans, gathered to bid farewell to Erick Omondi Odit, alias Omondi Longlilo, a renowned Luo Benga musician, at his rural home in Bondo sub-county.
Longlilo's body was interred at his home in Gombe village at around 11:00 am, in a burial ceremony that was attended by hundreds of mourners.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chairman of Siaya County Musicians Association Dr. Osito Kale and Treasurer Odhiambo Tusker thanked the fans for conducting themselves with decorum, noting that the burial was one of the most peaceful ceremonies.
Dr. Osito Kale also took the opportunity to caution Kenyans, especially social media users, against spreading inflammatory and inciting information whenever a musician dies, stating that they are capable of handling their issues and solving their differences without resorting to commotions.
Music producers, led by Harry Kamau Ongati, also attended the burial ceremony and advised Longlilo's fans to continue exercising utmost discipline and respect to the law to avoid getting into problems with law enforcement agencies.
Longlilo, who succumbed to cancer, left behind one wife, Gorrety Awino Omondi, and three daughters.
