Published on June 19, 2020, Nyali MP Mohammed Ali found himself isolated in his quest to impeach Transport CS James Macharia. The MP had been collecting signatures to remove the CS from office, citing the destruction of livelihoods for the people of the Coast region.

However, despite attending rallies and sharing podiums with Tanga Tanga MPs from the Mt Kenya region, Ali was a lone ranger in his efforts to oust CS Macharia. In fact, some of the MPs he had been accompanying to rallies, who were defending DP Ruto, turned against him, saying the Transport CS was one of President Uhuru's most industrious Cabinet Secretaries.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was among those who dismissed Ali's plot as a futile exercise. Nyoro claimed he thought the signatures collected by the legislator were meant for a Sacco, and not for impeachment proceedings.

Ali's former allies are now urging him not to waste the time of parliamentarians, as he has not marshaled enough numbers in parliament to push through the motion. The motion seeks to remove Transport CS James Macharia from office over his order to use the SGR to transport cargo from Mombasa to Naivasha Inland Container Depot.
