A Casket To Match Your Personality: Meet The Custom Coffin Makers Of Ghana
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
Caption: Custom made coffin in Ghana. Funerals in Ghana are a big deal and Ghanaians make sure they give their loved ones proper send-offs. Coffin makers in the country, therefore, have a tough job of ensuring that caskets reflect the life of the dead and they don't mess around with this "art".
Two journalists visited the West African country to understand how seriously Ghanaians take coffin making.
Custom coffin making in Ghana is something that has been catching on over the years, with families in rural areas going to the extent of saving their hard earned money just to get one for their loved ones when they die.
Cocoa farmers are known to bury their deceased family members in custom made cocoa pods which cost up to $1,000. This is a ridiculously huge amount considering some of these farmers earn as little as $3 a day.
The coffin designs mainly reflect the occupation of the deceased and recently a picture of a "Chilli Pepper Coffin" went viral. It was specifically made for the deceased who was a chilli farmer.
According to coffin makers in the country, the red colour also represented the man's hot temper.
